Student Leadership at Dene Academy

At Dene Academy, we are proud to have a strong and committed Student Leadership Team made up of our Year 11 Head Students, Deputy Head Students, and Prefects, alongside our Year 10 House Captains and Tutor Representatives from each KS3 tutor group. This team of dedicated students works hard to ensure that every member of our school community feels supported, valued, and heard throughout their time at Dene.

Our Student Leadership Team takes an active role in leading the Student Council, which meets once every half term. These meetings provide an excellent opportunity for students to develop their leadership, communication, and teamwork skills while discussing issues that matter to them. The Student Council represents the collective voice of our students and plays a vital role in shaping positive changes across Dene Academy.

Students throughout Dene Academy have a strong Student Voice – one which is both heard and valued. As well as regular Student Council meetings, students are encouraged to share their opinions about of a range of topics through our regular student voice questionnaires. Their opinions are fed back to the Senior Leadership Team and their responses are acted upon.

Dene Academy has also worked alongside Investors in Children and has received the ‘Investing in Children Membership Award’ which recognises our good practice for providing an environment in which our student’s voices can result in positive changes around school. The Student Leadership Team has worked alongside the House Champion team and have secured the award ‘School of Sanctuary’. Here at Dene Academy, we feel it is important for all new members of the community to feel welcome. The Student leadership team work hard to promote positive messages and encourage their peers to be welcoming and create a positive environment within the school and community.
