School Travel: Blackhall students

Dene Academy and Durham County Council’s policy is to offer a free bus pass to students who live in Blackall, the distance from school falls into the category of ‘a safe walk’.  

The criteria to apply is as follows:

  • Free School Meals/Pupil Premium: students living 2 miles and over from school and who are ‘in receipt/or have been in receipt’ of a Free School Meal, can apply via the school for a bus pass from Durham County Council.
  • Non Free School Meals:  students living in Blackhall can apply for a bus pass, which the school will purchase from Arriva/Go NE on their behalf.

School Travel: Students living over three miles from school

Further to this, Parents can apply directly to Durham County Council Education Transport. 

Students qualify for education transport if: 

“Children of compulsory school age are entitled to free home to school transport to the nearest suitable school where the home to school distance is over three miles. In the case of a school/academy that operates on two sites, this will be the nearest site of the school/academy.”
