Uniform

Dene Academy places great importance on the appearance of its students. It is a requirement of the school that all students from Years 7 to 11 wear the recognised school uniform.

Our policy is based on the notion that a school uniform:

  • promotes a sense of pride in the school;
  • engenders a feeling of community and belonging;
  • is practical and smart;
  • identifies the children with the school;
  • is not distracting in class (as fashion clothes might be);
  • makes children feel equal to their peers in terms of appearance;

School Uniform comprises of:

  • Compulsory Dene Academy blazer embroidered with school logo. A separate patch can also be purchased and embroided onto a generic black blazer.*
  • Compulsory Dene Academy school tie.*
  • Dene Academy school skirt or generic black school trousers.  Denim, denim look trousers or leggings are not allowed.
  • Generic blue shirt or blouse – long or short sleeved. It is an expectation that all shirts will be tucked in.
  • Optional V neck black knitted jumper with logo (Winter / cold weather clothing). No other sweatshirt or jumpers allowed.
  • Plain black school shoes. Visible logos, brandings, coloured attachments, coloured laces, trainers or trainer style shoes of any description are not allowed.

General Information.

  • The only jewellery allowed is one small set of gold or silver ear studs and a single flat ring. Covering up piercings with plasters or replacing with spacers is not a solution – please do not arrange piercings to coincide with term dates as students will be asked to remove inappropriate piercings in line with policy.
  • Hair should be tidy and suitable for a working environment which includes not being dyed in unnatural colours or lined or dyed in strips, patterns, initials etc.
  • Denim coats are not permitted in school.
  • No baseball caps or hats are allowed to be worn around school.
  • Make-up, if used at all, should be light, discreet and not excessive. We discourage the use of ‘fake tan’. Fake nails and eyelashes are not allowed.

The Role of Parents

We ask all parents who send their children to our school for their support of the school uniform policy. We believe that parents have a duty to send their children to school correctly dressed and ready for their daily schoolwork. Parents should ensure that their child has the correct uniform, and that it is clean and in good repair. Parents / Carers / Students should note that students who persist in failing to comply with the policy will be monitored and escalated through our Consequence System on the basis of their defiance.
