Rewards

Healthy competition is encouraged through all aspects of the House system both inside and outside of the classroom. Competitions are held fortnightly and revolve around current and annual events. Competition winners earn points for their House and have fun at the same time. 

Pupils can earn points for their house throughout the school day. Points are awarded within the classroom for the correct uniform, participation within the lesson and also the most progress made within the lesson. Points can also be reward for winning competitions both independently and collectively. At the start of the academic year, each student is given a class charts log in and parents/careers will also have access and be able to see how their child is doing. Class charts points are given every lesson by teachers; a P1 is given if the student arrives on time for lessons, is in the correct uniform and has the right equipment and stands behind their chairs; a P2 is given if students complete all of their work to the best of their ability and have followed all instructions and a P3 is given to those pupils who have excelled during the lesson. There are also points for: students who go above and beyond, either inside or outside the classroom and homework and SUPER points which are given weekly by tutors:

These class charts points will also decide which rewards students are eligible for at the end of each term and whether they are eligible for any school trips. Attendance is also a major focus this year, therefore each student should be working towards keeping their attendance as high as possible. With both of these items in mind, the criteria for students getting on reward trips are as follows:

Gold trip students are rewarded with a trip out of school or a whole day in school, recent trips have included ice skating, bowling, a trip to the cinema and a day of inflatables fun with lunch being provided. Silver students can expect a movie afternoon or party depending on the time of year and bronze students are awarded a prize such as an Easter egg or selection box.

In addition to our Gold, Silver and Bronze awards all students are invited to attend our whole school trips, this means that every student gets the opportunity to be included in an extra-curricular activity. Each year we plan a trip to the Pantomime at Christmas and we are currently planning a whole school trip to Flamingo land at the end of the summer term. Alongside this we also plan additional fun days on the last day of the summer term. Last year we had a full day where the pupils rotated between various activities. These included inflatables and an assault course, a Dance performance put on by P.E., a whole school quiz, an hour watching the House Champion football teams play (with an ice cream van to buy treats) and a tutor party at the end of the day. We are planning on running this again since last years was such a huge success.

Finally, in addition to all the trips and rewards, there is the Dene Academy talent show held each year in which parents and carers are invited to watch students showcase their extraordinary talents, alongside taking part in a raffle and raising money for charity.
